Richard Hamel Cooke graduated from the University of Oxford in 1979 before studying French literature and civilisation at l’Université d’Aix-Marseille III in the south of France. In 1986 he obtained the silver medal with distinction from l’école de peinture supérieure Van der Kelen-Logelain In Brussels before setting up his own interior design company.

For many years, he worked for the Oxford College Barge Preservation Trust and for the Save Venice Foundation researching and restoring craft for the Historical Naval Museum in Venice, Italy.

His entrepreneurial activity includes the renovation and redesigning of historic buildings both in England and abroad as well as furnishing, the sourcing of antiques, fine interior decoration as well as architectural layout and design.

In 2010, he was film location director for Gerry Fox in the award winning film “Mother’s Milk”, with the Oxford Interior Design Company supplying props, furnishings and design consultancy.
